A Basic Combat Training Guide

This basic combat training guide will let you in on one of the most rigorous training ever known to men  This is helpful if you are planning on enlisting or if you just want to undergo the same type of training for your personal well-being and self-defense  But first, what are the things that you can expect if you undergo the basic combat training in the Army?

It's nine weeks of training, training and more training.

Nine weeks sound like a short time  But if you're going to train in the Army, you'll be training for every second of most part of the day  The training is also so well-developed that everything is tackled for nine weeks  As soon as you're done with initial processing, it's all training from then on  You will meet your Drill Sergeant who has a grandmother so awesome that she seems to do everything better than you  Training is done on three phases “ Red, White and Blue  Each phase runs for three weeks and will slowly but surely mold you from a citizen to a soldier of the US Army.

Red Phase (Weeks 1 “ 3)

Highlights of the Red Phase include an overnight field exercise where you'll have a chance to develop teamwork  You will learn how to read a map which is crucial for wilderness survival  First aid will also be taught and it goes without saying that it's very important as well.

There will be a lot of readings as well as you tackle Military Law  There will also be a lot of standing in attention as you're exposed to countless of ceremonies and drills  Your agility will be tested with these ceremonies and drills  You will also be introduced to your M-16 rifle  Whatever you do, don't ever call it a gun  Always refer to it as a rifle  You'll be taught how to disassemble, assemble and clean your rifle  You'll also get your first taste of hand to hand combat as you're trained on how to use your bayonet.

White Phase (Weeks 4 “ 6)

The things that you learned in the Red Phase will be put to test as you undergo a 2-day field training exercise  You're expected to be fully trained with your rifle and that you'll certify in rifle exercises  Once certified, you will get the chance to train in using other weapons like machine guns and grenade launchers.

This is also the phase where you undergo one of the most important part of your training “ unarmed combat  You'll be trained on how to do combat without the use of any weapons  You'll learn takedowns, grabs, strikes and the likes.

Blue Phase (Weeks 7 “ 9)

You're now on the last phase of your training and you're fully expected to be one with your platoon  The whole platoon will navigate an obstacle course that will be physically and mentally challenging  The whole platoon will be taught on how to operate and move like a well-oiled machine  You'll know how to ask for cover and how to cover for your comrade  But equally important, you'll be trained on how to move without slowing down your team.

Your cojones will also be tested as you undergo a field exercise with machine guns being fired above you and explosions happening all around you  This is as close to a real war that you can get during training  You'll know how to be an effective soldier when everything is going haywire around you.

The last test is a week-long field exercise where your knowledge, agility, stamina and overall readiness will be tested  There will be situational exercises where you'll be trained on what to do for certain situations like kidnapping, carjacking and other urban situations  This will make you an effective soldier in the wilderness and urban environment.

What can you expect when you finish?

This basic combat training guide just showed you what you can expect in a military training  If you pass, you are now a soldier of the US Army  You are not a civilian anymore  You are expected to live the seven values of the Army.
